Pink Floyd

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason

Not bad

This is a reunion album from 1987.

Some people complain that this album doesn't sound like a Pink Floyd album, but that is a ridiculous statement. What does a Pink Floyd album sound like? Part of the greatness of Pink Floyd was that none of the albuums sounded the same, especially as the group evolved. Wish You Were Here is completely different than Animals.

Some people complain that this sounds more like a David Gilmore solo album. Probably the biggest problem is that this album sounds too much like a Pink Floyd album. The songs borrow extensively from other Pink Floyd albums. It starts out with spacey music, right out of Wish You Were Here. One Slip could have come from The Wall.

Despite not having a fresh sound, it is still a pretty good album. There are some very good songs on it. It is slow in a few parts, but the album is 51 minutes long and you get 40 minutes of pretty good music.

If the album came out before Dark Side of the Moon, few people would be complaining about it. But following in the footsteps of 4 of the best ablums in rock history (Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and the Wall), it has a lot to live up to.

The best Pink Floyd album to come out after The Wall is Roger Water's Amused to Death.

Pink Floyd started to fall apart around Animals, when Roger Waters was taking over the group, and Richard Wright left after the 1980 Wall tour. The Final Cut, released in 1983 was more of a Waters solo album than a Pink Floyd album. The group broke apart after the Final Cut. David Gilmore tried to continue on as Pink Floyd, but Waters threatened to sue. Gilmore, Nick Mason and Bob Ezrin (who produced the Wall) got together and made this album. They neglected to tell Wright, so he joined in late in the production and isn't listed as part of the group.

In 1987 both Pink Floyd and Roger Waters went on concert tours. Pink Floyd sold out stadiums and Roger Waters couldn't fill arenas. But, overall, Roger Waters played more Pink Floyd songs and played them better.

In 1994, Pink Floyd (again without Waters) released the Divisional Bell, which is very similar to this album in sound and structure.
