Perhaps Pink Floyd's most underrated album!
Review Score:

(10/10)
There may be no Floyd album that has gotten more negative attention (aside from the Roger Waters solo album The Final Cut) than A Momentary Lapse of Reason, and most (if not all) of it is really undeserved.
In 1987, with yet another lyrically ingenius singer out, Pink Floyd were back with David Gilmour at the helm. And for A Momentary Lapse of Reason the remaining members of PF had something to prove, and they did so with force. What we have here is classic Floyd, and like with most of their albums we have so many fantastically trippy songs to only they could have done. Gilmour can come up with lyrical revelations that may not be Waters level but don't disappoint, and certainly proves his worth as a top notch guitarist. They haven't lost their ability to create great new melodies or lyrics on songs such as Learnint to Fly, The Dogs of War, and Sorrow. Oh yeah those who accuse this of just recreating Floyd's classic sound and not being anything new or revolutionary should listen to Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and this one back to back, then decide. Plus if this album were released were released by anyone whose name wasn't Pink Floyd it would be recieved far better. But because its PF and Roger Waters isn't there it needs to be Dark Side all over again. (Well guess what. It ain't gonna happen.)
However I must say one thing. It is hard to call this a Pink Floyd album. Lets face it, David Gilmour's fingerprints are all over this, having written or co-written every track on the album (And none of the tracks were co-written with his fellow Floyds) There are only two official Floyd members, with Rick Wright limited to studio musician status. So those who refuse to call this a Pink Floyd album may be right. But it is a great, GREAT, David Gilmour album, and should entertain any PF fan who isn't to cynical and close minded.
In conclusion this was a refreshing step forward for Pink Floyd, as they left the dark, moody Roger Waters days behind, and proved they were still one of the greatest rock bands on the planet. No the album isn't perfect, and no it isn't among the classic albums of the '70s, but so many artists would spend lifetimes without ever reaching this level of quality. So while beginning or casual Floyd fans should go straight for Dark Side or Wish You Were Here, the dedicated fan should certainly have A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
