First of all I would like to say that this was one of the last Floyd albums I ever bought. I just never really thought it would be much I guess. I bought it out of total curiousity and it has been my favorite Floyd album ever since. I have read alot of reviews here at Amazon and I often see the line "not one weak track on this disc" or "no filler tracks here". Well, all too often they are exaggerating somewhat(in my opinion). Piper, Saucer, Ummagumma, Atom Heart, More, Meddle, Obcurred, Dark Side, The Wall, and The Final Cut all are very good albums but none of them are flawless. Every one of them has a weak track or two or three(Atom Heart Mother and Ummugumma). I am only speaking of the albums put out with Roger Waters still in the band by the way . Dave's solo projects aside for now (Momentary and Division Bell). There are only two truly flawless albums in the Pink Floyd library of discs and those two are clearly 1975's Wish You Were Here and the disc I am reviewing---ANIMALS. Dark Side, Obcurred and The Final Cut are close to perfect but they are not. The two afore mentioned cds are perfect. The disc starts off with a delicate little acoustical number called Pigs On The Wing pt. 1 which has Roger on vocals. Track two is where things really heat up. Track 2 is titled Dogs and it has it all. Dave starts the song off singing and Roger picks up somewhere around the 12 minute mark. I can't explain in words how good this song is. It is powerful yet subtle with soaring guitar work from Dave. It is maybe there best ever-PERIOD The third track is full of powerful chords and features Roger on vocals once again. It is simply titled Pigs(three different ones). Pigs has some very memorable lyrics and is actually funny if you don't take it all too seriously. (which none of us do? right?) I actually would rank Pigs right there with Dogs. Dogs and Pigs may be my favorite two Floyd songs ever. Dogs is around 18 minutes and Pigs comes in around 12. The third song is called Sheep and really shows off Roger's vocal abilities. This is one of those Waters songs where you just have to take your hat off to him when you listen. He is amazing to say the least. Roger sings throughout this track also. The fifth song is titled Pigs On The Wing pt.2 and really is a nice touch and brilliant idea to start and finish with similiar songs. Although, it has been done to perfection before. (Wish You Were Here which was recorded two years prior to this disc). The vocals on this disc are excellent throughout with Roger singing the better part of it but Dave really showing what he has on Dogs. The song writing is very strong throughout and that is just another testament to Roger Waters. If you don't own this album and you love the Floyd then what are you waiting for? Get it as soon as you can. If you are someone just looking into Floyd because you always hear Time, Money, Have A Cigar, Brain Damage/Eclipse, Wish You Were Here , Welcome To The Machine, Another Brick pt. 2, Run Like Hell or Young Lust on the radio then maybe you should buy the albums those songs come from first. The three would be Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall.(2cd set). All are excellent but Animals is great and I have never heard one song from Animals on any radio station yet. Crazy isn't it? The reasons are simple actually: There are only five songs on the Animals and two of them are around a minute and a half and the other three are all over ten minutes. The album also does not get the respect it deserves either. Give it a try and I am sure you will either kick yourself for waiting so long to get it like I did or be completely surprised that the Floyd actually made something good that doesn't get totally burned out by the classic rock stations in your "HOME TOWN" Hope I didn't bore you all too much and if you only remember one thing from my review remember this-"Jesus Saves and God Loves YOU!"
