The Best Of Pink Floyd

Opinions about the discs:

CD I

1. Astronomy Domine - Overrated, but still the best early song (along with 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' which is unfortuneately not included here). 3/5
2. See Emily Play - A psyhedelic garbage. Infantilism can attack you early. I like Cinderella better. Very weak - if I compare this to songs like Time or Money. Good for a laugh. 1/5
3.+4. Happiest Days/Another Brick... - A very good song, though I've heard it a million times. 4.5/5
5. Echoes - Overrated, but I can listen to it often. Nice singing, and playing. 4/5
6. Hey You - One of the better songs from 'The Wall'. 5/5
7. Marooned - A beatiful, soft but too short instrumental. Wright & Gilmour shines here, too. 4/5
8. The Great Gig In The Sky - Wright's piano & organ along with some exalted singing by Clare Torry. 4.5/5
9. Set The Controls - Also an overrated 'gem'. Sorry, I just can't get excited. 3.5/5
10. Money - A classic. 5/5
11. Keep Talking - Seems like they've lost something after Rogers exit. No hope for the old professionalism and brightness
2.5/5
12. Sheep - Probably my favorite song from 'Animals'. Great piano intro by Wright, cool riffs, and a gorgeous ending. 5/5
13. Sorrow - This one also bores me to hell. Sorry. 2/5

CD II

1. Crazy Diamond - An absolutely splendid opus. It's edited altough, but I don't care. 5/5
2. Time - Just like Money, this is unquestionably a classic. 5/5
3. The Fletcher Memorial Home - Skip this. Otherwise you need a pocket of handkerchieves, and a box of stomachic. For all that, Gilmour's solo is enjoyable. 1.5/5
4. Comfortably Numb - Soulful refrain, and very touching solos from Gilmour. You need to hear this!4.5/5
5. When The Tigers Broke Free - They've messed up this cd again. Totally boring, really not the best. For sure. I don't need good lyrics if the music is dull. You don't need this one. 1.5/5
6. One Of These Days - An overrated jam, though it's good. Phrase by Nick Mason. 3.5/5
7. Us And Them - One of the best songs from the album called 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. 5/5
8. Learning To Fly - Good if you want to hear them somewhat more commercial. I don't think so that this should be the greatest line-up in Pink Floyd's history. A 'highlight' from the '87 album. 3/5
9. Arnold Layne - An amateurish single again. Catchy psyhedelic light-weight pop ditty. 1/5
10. Wish You Were Here - One of the most whirling and enthralling hit Pink Floyd has ever made.
Great stuff. 5/5
11. Jugband Blues - A dry, muzzy, and laughable descant. 2/5
12. High Hopes - One of the better things from the '94 album. Solid, but still not the old Floyd sound. 3/5
13. Bike - This must be a joke. Check out Hockey-Pockey instead. Guaranteed laughing and endless smiles. Some very weird quacks at the end. I must admit it's funny. Also funny: some think this is a landmark song by Syd. 2/5

I hope you liked my review, and appriciated my thoughts. Thank you.

The Ultimate Pink Floyd Experience?

Maybe not. But it's a heck of an effort, attempting to represent Pink Floyd over its entire history (1967-1994, I guess)with the obvious an [ ... read complete review ]
