Everyone has their own opinions about the best of Pink Floyd. But to me, it is apparent that after Roger Waters left, they banked on the name Pink Floyd without truly maintaining that name, releasing two live albums, the Division Bell, and finally this compilation. Although I have only heard the hits off 'The Division Bell,' compared to what Pink Floyd put out with Waters every album in a few years, and the fact that it took them a while to release 'The Division Bell' tells me Pink Floyd has lost it. The retail price for this album is 26.99, and as another reviewer suggested, you could buy any two good Floyd albums for the price of this. Do so, because Pink Floyd, while some of there songs are better that others, isn't a greatest hits band. They were a band that released concept albums, where each song was dependent on the one following is and proceeding it. On these discs, you get none of that, just the popular tracks off most albums. If you truly need a good compilation, get 'P.U.L.S.E.'-it's similarly priced, contains the entire Dark Side of the Moon, and it actually flows. The Syd Barrett-era is barely represented here; Time, The Great Gig in the Sky, Money, and Us and Them are here from the 'Dark Side of the Moon', only Sheep from 'Animals' ('Animals' compared people to three different animals, each with their own song), and only the familiar 'Wall' tracks are here. So, you only get a little bit of each concept before it abruptly switches to a different album, plus each of the individual tracks from every album aren't together, they're in a seemingly random order. The title track, echoes is abridged NINE MINUTES!!! I don't think you can be a casual fan of this band, and even if you are, pick up a live disc or something. For the price of 26.99, you could pick up any two good PF albums (except the double and live albums), such as The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. There is no point to this album. I am giving this two stars, because after all, it is pretty good music. I just wish they released a greatst hits album for the non-Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Wall stuff (Like 'Echoes' from Meddle; it's the only song you need from Meddle as a casual fan; most PF albums only have one or two essential songs for the casual fan). Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!
