The Best Of Pink Floyd

If you're a Floyd completist who's just gotta have When the Tigers Broke Free on cd, that's one thing. But if you're a casual fan looking for a concise package of essential Pink Floyd, one has yet to be made. There are 26 tracks on Echoes, a whopping 10 of which are either from the short-lived and over-hyped Syd Barrett era or from the post-Waters albums. In other words, almost 40% of Echoes (by track, not time) is a mix of whimsical 1967 ditties that sound like nothing else they would ever do, and David Gilmour solo material that he understandably chose to release under the more lucrative Pink Floyd name (well, not quite: Marooned is a Rick Wright instrumental from the post-Waters days, but it's also possibly the most baffling inclusion on this collection). There is not enough space remaining on these two short discs to do justice to the band's classic years, and even a fair chunk of that is squandered on questionable picks like Fletcher Memorial Home, Happiest Days of Our Lives, Sheep, Great Gig in the Sky, and When the Tigers Broke Free (a rarity only included to snare the folks who've already got all of the albums)....
