The Best Of Pink Floyd

Can you really fault this collection?

Some people take issue with a band like Pink Floyd putting out a Greatest Hits, but the simple truth is this: very few people know about Pink Floyd during the Syd Barrett era, when arguably they were better than they were during the 1970s. Here, five of his best songs are collected, including the superb "See Emily Play". While they tend to focus too much on the later material (really, are all those cuts from "The Division Bell" necessary?) and the choice to put only Parts 1-7 of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on there was rather peculiar, there is one great song after another, and it displays their genius from the pre-Dark Side period, in addition to showing how, from Dark Side thru The Wall, they were absolutely unbeatable. The great lesser-known songs include "Fletcher Memorial Home", "Arnold Layne", "The Happiest Days of Our Lives" and the aforementioned "See Emily Play". This is, of course, in addition to all the great famous songs they made. So if you want a great intro or condensed retrospective, definitely buy this album.
