Many Amazon reviewers complain that, here we are in 2001, and no new Pink Floyd. Fair enough, but it seems at least that all the boys (Pink Floyd and Roger Waters respectively) got together for this one as well as last years' "Is there Anybody Out There?"-Wall-Live CD. Both Roger Waters and Pink Floyd Management are mentioned on this one, so they must have (temporarily)buried the hatchet and complied this - "Another greatest hits package" together. So what's different? For starters, this two CD compilation is sequenced together which means the songs flow together. Kinda, sorta. Also, here is a rich sampling of Syd Barrret Floyd in between cuts off of later Floyd like "Dark Side","Wish You Were Here", "Division Bell", etc. My friend Michele says that "Animals" is the ultimate Floyd album and maybe she's right. Although there's nothing as moving as "Great Gig in the Sky", it does seem to have a balance between Mister Waters and Mister Gilmour unlike "The Wall" and "The Final Cut" which is mostly Roger Waters (and hey, I'm not dissing him-I love"Amused to Death"). Here in "Echoes", there is also a nice balance between Mr. Barrett and Mr. Waters and Mr. Gilmour (although "Sheep" is the only cut from "Animals"). And hey, haven't you always wanted "When the Tigers Broke Free" from the Wall soundtrack? Oh, well what you won't find here, you can get on Roger Water's "In the Flesh" and Pink Floyd's "Pulse". Own those two and "Echoes" and you'll be comfortably numb from all those versions of "Comfortably Numb."
