Pink Floyd

The Division Bell

Should've quit in '83

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (4/10)
I cringe any time I hear this album. It is painful to listen to. It, along with A Momentary Lapse of Reason, are polar opposites of what Floyd used to be. Not just the sound, which for anyone should change over time, but in what it stands for, these albums have no message, no meaning. It seems that Gilmour is trying WAY too hard to repeat old sounds that brought success. What comes out is supposed to be abstract I suppose, but is so annoyingly repititious that it is difficult to finish listening to the entire album. It brings out a level of disgust that you wouldn't have known was in you. This album, along with whatever new compilation is out today,is a shameful attempt to bank what they can off the Pink Floyd name. If you're new to Floyd I would suggest starting with DSOTM, Animals, WYWH... If you've already got all the old goodies and are considering buying this: DON'T! You'll regret it, we'll all just have to accept that the Floyd died in 1983. (sorry to be so negative but this album really is terrible) :(
