...because I sense this album gets "no respect," certainly if you're to judge by the official review up there. Fisrt, I didn't think A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON deserved the trashing it got. But this album really is nice. You can argue whether it's Floyd, but when Gilmour's singing it sounds like, well, a David Gilmour-vocals Pink Floyd song. And the songs ARE well written, and that DOES mean lyrically and, above all, melodically. I don't know of a more consistent record, either. It envelopes you in a somewhat cottony journey, with very good and very trademark guitar solos throughout. Rick Wright contributes a song or two that are quite on the mark. This is almost a too "mature" album in theme, though, and if you rely on the great tunes and play it too many times in a row it's gonna sound a tad moralistic...or something. It's very "heavy." But you know it has longevity, too, and should rightfully go down as the best work Gilmour has done alone since "The Narrow Way," of course an atogether different piece. He was always the Heart of Pink Floyd, and now he's simply gone further in the direction of taking Waters' place as its mind also.
