Pink Floyd

The Division Bell

The dullest album in the 'Floyd calalogue

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (4/10)
Jeez, how can anyone give this album 5, or even 4 stars? This is by far the most fragmented and disjointed album ever put out under the name Pink Floyd. Not to mention dull. PF, in its history, had been bombastic, pretentious, smarmy, over-reaching and preachy, but never dull.
The songs themselves are somewhat interesting, but the music, arrangements and playing are by-the-book and uninspired. The band reaches deep into its old bag of tricks and throws in a sax solo here and a female backup chorus there (a la "Dark Side"), but the result are stale and monotonous.
While Roger Waters had become annoying after "Animals", his presence would have only helped "The Division Bell". Of course,it would have been a totally different album, but that'd be an improvement.
PF may or may not crank out albums in the future, but thank goodness we still have "DSOTM", "Meddle", "Animals", "Saucerful...", "Piper..." and even "The Wall" and "Wish You Were Here" to go back to. And that's enough.
