THE DIVISION BELL is not a great album, but it's certainly better than A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF RAISINS.For one, RICK WRIGHT was
once again a full time member of the group and his jazzy song-
writing and keyboard playing is a big part of this album, espe-
cially on some of the instrumentals and on the song WEARING THE
INSIDE OUT, on which he makes his first lead vocal performance
on a PF album since DARK SIDE. I also think there are at least
two legit good songs here: WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME, with it's
agressive guitar playing and it's angry sounding vocals and
very appropriate backing vocals, is really quite an enjoyable
song. Also, TAKE IT BACK is an upbeat but easy going rocker and
pleasant to listen to. If the rest of the album was like these
two songs, I may have liked it better. The rest of it isn't all
that bad; it's heavy on the keyboards and synths and has more
of GILMOUR'S wonderful guitar playing and strong singing and the
songs are very soothing and mellow, even when they're not that
memorable and it is a nice album to fall asleep to. Still, it is
lacking in the lyric department and it's a bit too sad and de-
pressing and lacking in wit and humour. It IS better than MOMENT-
ARY, but still not on par with any of their ROGER WATERS albums.
