"And as the windshield melts / My tears evaporate / Leaving only charcoal to defend. / Finally I understand the feelings of the few. / Ashes and diamonds / Foe and friend / We were all equal in the end...". This could have been a great ending for a great band. Waters sings, shouts and screams with all his honesty and conviction, gilmour plays some cool solos, mason gives us a sense of drama and tension with his martial drums. Best tracks: All of them. A great Floyd Opera, could've been better with some atmospheric Wright keyboards, but... it has some of the best "Waters going crazy" songs . That's what the "new Floyd" lacks: madness and some brain damage. This band needs a real madman (Barrett, Waters) with weird ideas. The Floyd was always about that, not about competent musicianship or obsessive production. Now flash forward to the Pulse Tour: "Gilmour Pink Floyd" sounds just like the surrogate band of greedy mercenaries from "not now john" (including gilmour and chorus girls ) . "Who cares what it's about, as long as the kids go? Not now john, got to get on with the show".
