When Syd Barrett was King

Sadly, Syd Barrett, the original creative force of Pink Floyd, only lasted two albums before his union with the band was no longer. He clearly provided something different and exciting compared to their later stuff. Some very simple melodies constituted these songs, yet they were powerful, catchy, and in some cases more psychedelic than the later recordings. "Astronomy Domine" is a powerful example of the dynamism of these early tunes, as well as "Interstellar Overdrive" and "The Bike." Syd Barret leads here in a quirkier, less dramatic style than when Roger Waters would later take the reins. This album is a must-have for any exploring Pink Floyd aficionado.
