The Best by the Best

this is by far Pink Floyd's best recording to date. After Sid Barrett left the music never sounded the same. This first of all, is true psychadelic music in its purest form. The imagery in the songs is amazing. I especially love the song, "The Gnome" which is based on the character Bilbo Baggins from the Tolkkien novels. Syd Barret's song writing may seem simplistic and child-like, but that is where his genius is. This album is full of fairy tale references and childbook creations from Syd's mind.
now on to the music aspect. the songs are true 60's psychadelia. If you haven't listened to this era of Pink Floyd yet, keep in mind that it is VASTLY different than the David Gilmour era. My two favorite songs musically are Atronomy Domine and Interstellar OVerdrive. The ladder sounds like it could be from a cheesy 60's sci-fi flic, which is why it's so great. It also borders on avant-garde, which Syd is often heralded as being at times.
this is a great album for anyone who is looking to get into 60's psychadelic music and also for anyone who wants to explore the original Pink Floyd.
