An untamed album

Syd Barrett is not a simple man. He is the man who started Pink Floyd. He is a mythical figure who started a cult. Therefore it is inappropriate to dismiss this album as a bad one merely because it doesn't fit in with one's view of what Pink Floyd is (if one happens to think Pink Floyd is 'The Wall' and 'The Dark Side Of The Moon').

'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' is the first album by Pink Floyd, and the most experimental, psychedelic and innovative. The atmosphere of the album is kind of detached, cosmic, the band is not with you, the music is not about you, nor is it for you, it simply is. This album is like looking in a madman's mind - horrifying and fascinating at the same time, the music has a life of its own, there is something unearthy and eerie about it, and it can go infinitely deeper. 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' embodies a time of change, the very moment that is the present.

And I couldn't not give this album 5 stars - not if it has 'Interstellar Overdrive' and 'Bike' in it...
