The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

Let's see Emily play with the Gnome!

"The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" was my first Pink Floyd CD I ever bought. There should be a correction on the album & the CD for it was Richard Wright who was doing most of the backing vocals, not Roger Waters. Syd Barrett's use of the Binson echo unit gave him a unique guitar sound, otherwise known as "The Intersteller Sound" (just listen to 'Astrology Domine' & 'Intersteller Overdrive' for good examples). Water's Rickenbacker bass guitar work is amazing on 'Lucifer Sam' & 'Mother Matilda.' Wonder why he never improvised much more on the bass after this album? When we think of the Farfisa Organ, it's mainly has that happy, pop rock teeny-bopper sound. With Rick Wright behind it, he made it very errie sounding & also is keyboard work is as well very haunting indeed, especially on 'Flaming.' 'Take Thy Stethoscope & Walk' has that '60's jam band feel. One thing that is interesting, 'the Scarecrow.' It was that video (YES THEY MADE A VIDEO FOR THAT SONG) that made me buy that album for it was hilarious to watch. The sound quality is not the best but then again, this is 1967. The only drawbacks, no 'See Emily Play' & it would've been great if they would've thrown in 'Arnold Layne.'

Psychadelia at its best

Interstellar Overdrive. You don't need to know anything else.
