Good songs, but . . .

This is a more consistent listening experience than any of their proper albums. Brian Molko uses his Geddy Lee-like voice to his advantage with strong vocal hooks, and the band has good musicianship for the rock genre. That said, some of the melodic lines become repetitive, and I think the band would do better to put more than one solid hook into each song. Going just slightly in the "prog" direction would help them. Also, the weird sleeve imagery and Molko's endless variations on goth and amorphous sexuality are tiresome. These guys are in their thirties, and it's time to grow up. As such, the next album should be interesting and will likely determine whether or not their career will go forward or stagnate.
