As with so many semi-competent hair-metal bands, Poison recorded albums that tended to contain one or two hook-filled hits while the rest of the album sank under the weight of brainlessness. But on Greatest Hits, you'll get the band's most famous tunes: Big piano ballad "Something to Believe In" (probably its best song, with a lyric almost approaching a conscience); the grinding "Unskinny Bop"; cheesy mall ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", which nevertheless has its own simplistic charm; the infectious "Fallen Angel"; and some nice-sounding guitars (if not vocals) on "I Won't Forget You".
Without the sleaze and sweat of Motley Crue or the soaring lead vocals of Warrant, Poison stands as a peroxided, dated, awkward, yet not entirely pleasure-free chapter in the history of metal.
