Outlandos D'amour

After This, It Was All Downhill...

Let's face it. The Police blew their collective creative wad on this, their first album, with each subsequent release getting worse and worse until Sting, being the selfish jackass that he is, just let his ego run away with him. Except for a few songs from "Regatta De Blanc," and a few damn good B-sides ("Visions Of The Night" and "A Sermon"), this is all The Police you really need. MVP honors to the amazing Stewart Copeland, who is just all over his drum kit. I wonder if Sting notices the irony in this line from the album's best song, "Peanuts": "Don't wanna hear about the love you're making"? Would someone please charter the course for me that Mr. Sumner took from writing songs about inflatable dolls ("Be My Girl-Sally") to saving rain forests and grabbing photo ops with guys with plates in their lips?
