The only real cheesy thing I can find with this band, is when you see their picture and their all holding swords! But hey, with the way this band sounds, they can all be wearing goofy makeup and masks like all the REAL cheesy rock out there in the USA right now, and I'd still hail them as one of the greatest melodic metal acts out there. The 3rd installment in the Algalord Chronicles, the storyline continues in fine Tolkien-like fantasy. The first half of the album reminds me of the 1st Legendary Tales release, while in the second half of the album, you can see the Power of The Dragonflame sound taking shape. Very melodic in the orchestration, more flute interludes, a little more emphasis on that great, female opera-like vocalist, less influence on the keyboards, but their in there and sound great. The Yngwie Malmsteen guitar sound is heavy and about as technical as you can get, also with a heavy pounding sound on the drum kit, you have a killer power/melodic release here. The cover art on this one reminded me more of an Iced Earth-type cover, rather than the brilliance gracing the covers of Legendary Tales and Dragonflame. Now that these chronicles are over, I'd like to see Rhapsody continue with another batch of storyline epic fantasy metal releases, and maybe a live CD would be great: I'd LOVE to hear these guys pull this stuff off live. Blind Guardian did just that on their Tokyo Tales CD, I don't see why Rhapsody can't either. A 5 STAR MELODIC MADNESS RATING! Enjoy this one Rhapsody fans ... and cheers from Scraggy's Tomb!
