Weary of Rhapsody

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (2/10)
The first album I bought of Rhapsody was Symphony of Enchanted Lands. I loved it and couldn't wait to get more from Rhapsody. Unfortuneatly I have grown weary of Rhapsody.

Even after listening to their albums over and over somehow I still lose track of which song I am listening to because so many of them sound so much the same. Their faster songs all seem to suffer from the same drum beat and pattern to the point it seems as if you could overlay the pattern into any of their songs and it would fit.

And other songs in my opinion seem to start out sounding very unique, great and sometimes ren sounding. But they quickly, and sometimes very abruptly, detiorate right back into the exact same sound and metal pattern that is most of their songs.

The March of the Swordmaster is one that comes to mind. It has a great ren sound and feel right off and flows into a metal version of that and it sounds great! But then, in typical Rhapsody fashion, it deviates to far from what they established at the start of the song and becomes just another one of the same songs they have already done.

Rhapsody...you have a lot of talent. But I think you need to be far more diverse. You can be without losing a metal feel. Just stop feeling you have to turn all your songs into a speed metal test just to give the drummer and guitarist a work out.

That is my 2 cents.

Cheesy but EXCELLENT operatic power metal

If you can get over the extremely cheesy lyrics the music is excellent. This band and Nightwish are my favourite operatic power metal bands [ ... read complete review ]
