Rush

A Farewell To Kings

Rush in their prime

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Of all the Rush studio albums (17 by my count), this is tied with 2112 as their proggiest. The title track is a killer opener, but is soon overshadowed by the masterpiece "Xanadu", an 11-minute ode to Samuel Taylor Coleridge's epic poem "Kubla Khan". Then follows the radio staple "Closer to the Heart". The listener gets some time to catch his/her breath with the next two songs, "Cinderella Man" and "Madrigal"--both are very pleasant to listen to. The album concludes with another epic, Cygnus X-1. It has a sad ending; the minor chords that Alex plays seem to say "TO BE CONINUED..." (hint, hint, see Hemispheres).

You cannot be a fan of Rush without this album in your collection.
