A Farewell To Kings

A Farewell To Amateurish Song Writing

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
A Farewell To Kings is the first Rush CD without any filler songs. Gone are the Twilight Zones, Rivendells and I Think I'm Going Balds. The album beings nicely with Alex Lifeson playing a nice Spanish guitar things then the band breaks into the sonic fury of the title track. After the title track is Xanadu, a song inspired by Samuel Talor Cooleridge's Kubla Khan. This is one of the best Rush has ever recorded. Closer to the Heart has a nice intro and is one of the bands most popular songs but not a personal favorite of mine. You may enjoy it. Cinderella Man and Madrigal are both good songs, but not in the same caliber as the first two tracks. The album closes with Cygnus X-1, about a journey into a black hole. Yeah, I know, it sounds silly but it displays a wonderful instrumental section. A Farewell To Kings is a solid effort from Rush.
