Rush's "A Farewell To Kings" sounds like no other album either by Rush or anyone else for that matter. Finally casting off the 'Led Zepellin jnr' mantle they propelled themselves towards rock superstardom. The album kicks off with A Farewell To Kings-gently soothing the listener with an acoustic opening before the tumult of bass,drums and electric guitar comes crashing in,introducing the piercing cry of Geddy Lee's vocals,wrought with anger yet plaintiff and hopeful.What can be said of Xanadu? Surely there isnt a rock fan out there that hasnt experienced this theatrical rock extravaganza!A masterpiece of portentious guitar and keyboards-worth the price of the CD by itself.Closer To the Heart is another Rush standard, more acoustic guitar and a Top 30 hit single in the UK.An all-time classic.
Straight ahead rock follows with Cinderella Man, then the beautiful Madrigal lulls you into a false sense of security before the monster that is Cygnus X-1.This is Rush's trademark: Sci-Fi meets Metal and the listener is the winner. Black holes and space travel what a way to end an album, and the promise of 'to be continued.'Anyone who doesnt own this album should order it now!
