The Satanic Father of Black and Death Metal in the 90s

With or without the knowledge of extreme metal???s origins, it is clear to the listener that these two EPs were stepping-stones for the development of black/death metal into the nineties. What hits you most is the sheer energy that bursts forth from this CD; here Sepultura have the sound of true originality, uncoloured by desire for success or twisted by useless political motives. Youthful creativity is what drives the simple drumming, the raging guitars and the necrotic vocals.
???Morbid Visions'has a truly underground sound. The drums echo in some distant Brazilian room and the feedback effectively surrounds the other instruments like a warm coat.
Summed up, Sepultura???s musical youth was fast and simple death metal. The vocals bark in a style that is emulated by death and black metal singers to this day ???understandable given the feeling they contain.
This album has a sense of grim joy ??? joy in metal creation, joy in blatant and effective occult symbolism, joy at the raging speed. For me, this makes the album great; regardless of ideals or specific tastes, Sepultura hit a subconscious metal-head nerve that we all should posess.
Sepultura played an undeniably important role in the creation of Death Metal worldwide, displayed clearly on this album ??? which is both visionary and devastating.
