Sepultura

Chaos A.D.

A solid metal album

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
This album represents the transition beetween old-style Sepultura and more mainstream Sepultura. Up until Arise, the band cultivated a sound that was closer to classic 80s thrash, but with these release, they started experimenting a little bit, slowing down the tempos and even incorporating some Brazilian folk elements into their music, as they would brilliantly move on to do in Roots. And even though they did, in a way, make a move towards a more "mainstream" sound, they didn't lose their edge and power.

I gave this album only four stars not because it's not good enough, but because compared to other Sepultura releases, I feel something is missing with this one. It has some great songs, but also some that are somewhat lackluster. The power is there the whole time, but the magic of Beneath the Remains or Arise is only present at certain moments of the record. Still, this is a great album, and no metal collection is complete without it. Some of their most popular songs are here, such as Refuse/Resist and Territory.
