Sepultura

Chaos A.D.

Not fast, but wicked

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
After the full-on speed metal of Beneath the Remains and Arise, Brazil's finest apparently thought it was time for a change of pace. This is the first "experimental" Sepultura album as it were. The tempos are slower and the band brought in some more interesting influences: an acoustic instrumental ('Kaiowas'), a female opera singer ('Amen') and certain passages of "jungle" style drumming. All of this might cause one to think that Sep had gone soft or wacky, if not for the fact that this album is full of the best, heaviest guitar riffs the band ever thought up. Several tracks, like 'Refuse/Resist', 'Slave New World' and 'Biotech is Godzilla' rank up with this group's finest work. This is a definite change from their earlier work, but in many ways just as strong. Recommended for open-minded metal fans.
