Chaos A.D. is absolutely one of the best metal albums I've ever heard, and I've heard a good many. This is the rare record where every track is a standout, and the momentum energized by the classic opener 'Refuse/Resist' carries through all the way to the end. The foundation of this metal carnage is the tried-and-true hard and fast motif which characterizes thrash/death metal, and which makes for some fantastic riffing on tracks like 'Slave New World' and others. 'Biotech is Godzilla' wins the award for goofiest song title, but it's a brilliant piece of music, brutally heavy and blazingly fast. To this formula Sepultura added more esoteric influences such as tribal beats and acoustic guitar, which in no way diffuses the raw energy of the album. 'Kaiowas' is a brief folky instrumental which serves to soothe the listener a bit, and then it's back into the fray. This is probably one of my top five metal CDs, and it's certainly worth checking out.
