Sepultura

Chaos A.D.

Very, very impressive.

On the whole, this is simply one of the most impressive metal albums I have ever heard. "Refuse/Resist" is a great track, but it is only a hint at some of the transcendentally awesome music in this package. "Amen", for example, is thumping, hypnotic drums with a decidedly tasty guitar riff, shot through with vitriol from Max Calavera's mike. In songs like "Biotech is Godzilla" and "Manifest", he does an admirable job of blowing the lid off of the injustices perpetrated by the Brazilian government and its henchmen against the natives of the Amazon. "Kaiowas" proves that Sepultura can groove with accoustic guitars as well as hyper-distortion pedals, as well as being a moving tribute to one of the most tragic victims of the government's agendas.

I read somewhere that Max Calavera was a big Discharge fan, and it shows. Chaos A.D. takes metal riffs and punk anger and puts them both to some of the most dazzling tribal beats ever. This album gets my best recommendations if you at all consider yourself a metalhead.
