Great but not sep's best

If you are only into sep's old stuff like arise, beneath the remains etc. this may not be your cup of tea. It is still a great aalbum though. They went from their pure thrash riffs and drumming to a more experimental tribal kind of sound, which by all means is still great, but quite different.

Fans of soulfly will enjoy this more than fans of slayer. There is still the thrashy sound, but it is slower, you don't really feel the intensity of igor pounding away now, and kisser's solo's and riffs aren't as impressive, although the new sound is still good. The tribal drumming is superb, gives a really good vibe to the album, as with more use of acoustic. The lyrics are also a lot more meaningful, involving politics, unlike previous albums featuring death metal lyrics, and max's style lacks the distortion sound, although he can still roar like their is no tomorrow.

This is an amazing album, but Sepultura have done better (the better albums are some of the best albums of all time though) and the new direction is good. This is a lot better than soulfly's stuff, don't think just because both are tribal and contain max mean they will sound exactly the same.
