Some curiosities about sepultura!!!!

I must confess "I`m not a huge metal fan anymore!".During the 80's I attempted some incredibles concerts in Brazil. Iron Maiden ( world slavery tour, 85), METALLICA ( ...and justice tour,89-the best gig of my life!), Sepultura ( schizophrenia tour, 1988, Arise tour,91), and other.

I was living in Philadelphia PA last year (2000) where I could find out that the guys from Belo Horizonte ( the city that sepultura comes from.) are very famous outside Brazil. I had a chance to talk with people from diferent places in this world that enjoy sepultura, however some facts are not clear.

Perhaps they are curiosities for sepultura buffs.

The "tribal" influence that everybody thinks come from the "kaiowas" tribe is not totally truth. The band is a very close friend of Carlinhos Brown, an important musician from Salvador, Bahia that introduced sepultura to this kind of rhythm, very used by the carnaval`s musicians. The drums, called "percussao" in portuguese, are an african offspring that was mixed with the native instruments. In Salvador, during the carnaval (february) the afoxe bands play this kind o rhythm in the streets, walking away followed by the audience that drinks, dance and do all kinds of nuts stuff like in a rock concert.

A lot of people thinks that sepultura is just a name, without meaming! that`s not true. Sepultura(a portuguese word) means "grave" or "tomb" in english.

I attempted a metallica concert in 1999, Sao paulo, Brazil, Where sepultura opened the concert. In my humble opinion they didn`t do a great job. A lack in the riffs was clear, even with Andreas playing very well! obviously they were missing the basic guitar,and something else...!

I think that in this new album they found their feets again. Derick is more convinced, and probably more confident in a live concert then in the last tour. ( They played a litlle jam sessiom here, kind of warm-up for the new tour. I can guarantee 100% that they will blow up again!).

The reason for the 4-stars is just because this album is not like ARISE,CHAOS A.D,or ROOTS ( their best cds)

If you have a chance to purchase a "Brasilian edition" of this new album, do it! They always include bonus track in this version ( since ARISE). Sometimes live music, sometimes music singing in portuguese, like "policia"(police) of TITAS ( another Brazilian rock band), that worth it. I think that It is available at amazon.com stock.
