What metal should be

The music on this CD defies categorization - of course, it is metal, but it is also so much more! Tell me, dear friend, have you ever heard another album of such primal heaviness, such stunning virtuosity? I didn't think so. I never thought that Sepultura could ever create another album to match Arise, but Roots is every bit the equal of Arise and perhaps even more. The fusion of indigenous Brazilian music and metal works beautifully. I don't even want to mention individual songs - suffice it to say, that most of the songs on this CD are masterpieces. As always, the brothers Cavalera deliver virtuoso performances - Igor's drums have never sounded better. That Sepultura could have reached their creative peak with Roots, then have Max leave the band soon thereafter, was more than many could bear. Loyal Sepultura fans can only hope that Max and the band will someday resolve their differences. Until then, at least we have Roots and all that came before it.
