Brilliant Masterpiece

Not being a fan of who most would call "Death Metal", I was absolutely shocked when I first listened to "Roots". What sets this CD apart from any other in the metal genre is the tribal beats, rhythms, and chants. The tribal interruptions in songs like "Endangered Species" or "Born Stubborn" are nothing short of brilliant. The Brazilian tribal influence is much more dominant in "Ratamahatta" and "Itsari", which are very unique and captivating. Another aspect that makes this CD a masterpiece are the lyrics. Sepultura has definatley raised the international awareness of the wrongdoings of the Brazilian government towards the naitive tribes of the Amazon. Later, when I purchased a copy of Chaos A.D., I noticed they were moving towards the direction of "Roots", although the CD did not have the tribal influence of "Roots". I was very disappointed when I heard Sepultura broke up. We can only imagine how good the follow up would have been.
