Primaeval, balanced, original

This is a bizarre album. I am a trained classical musician who grew up on Metal, having been on a quest for intelligent dissonance ever since regardless of genre. Roots is on par with some Metallica and Nirvana's Bleach/In Utero in this respect: an oxymoron, a coherent mess. Roots stands apart with the raw power of its battery and Max's unique toast. There are moments of mesmerizing pseudo-Amazonian quietude, however, that - although not interesting in themselves - yield a balanced album better than Chaos AD, the only comparably complex album by Sepultura. This is not "The Best Album Ever" as some might rave and froth, but it is definitely worth 5 stars to the open mind who can stomach its visceral nature.
