Thank you Mos Def and Talib Kweli. In a time where sub-par artists such as 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Chingy, Snoop Dog and Eminem are the accepted standard, these two MCs shine, bringing back the vibes of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and The Jungle Brothers. The album is brilliant from start to finish, From the Intro to Twice Inna Lifetime. My personal favorite tracks are Astronomy "(8th Light)", "Brown Skin Lady", "K.O.S. (Determination)" and "Respiration". "Astronomy (8th Light)" is a classic, with Mos and Talib going back and forth so fluidly, it's beautiful. "Brown Skin Lady" is a song with a slightly Indian-sounding beat in which Mos Def and Talib Kweli sing about how they like the "Brown Skin Ladies" but in doing so they are not they least bit disrespectful. In "K.O.S. (Determination)" Def and Kweli spit about the hardships of being black and how you have to have "Knowledge of Self" and determination to survive. The song has some stunning vocals by Vinia Mojica who also sung on "Verses From The Abstract" on A Tribe Called Quest's classic realease "The Low End Theory". "Resperiation" features an awesome (one of the best I've heard) beat by DJ Hi-Tek and stunning verses by Mos Def, Talib Kweli and fellow rapper Common about the perils and hardships of living in the city. "Thieves In The Night" is easily the best song on the album with a beautiful piano beat by 88 Keys. Mos and Kweli talk about the sorry state of government in the USA and how people are unaware of it. It's stunningly well done and a masterpeice in itself. All in all this is an amazing album with 13 amazing songs by 2 amazing MCs.
