Black Star is perhaps one of the greatest hip-hop duos to grace the scene and their album is one of the quintessential underground gems in all of hip-hop. On Black Star, Mos Def and Talib Kweli announce the return of the Native Tongues through their voices and rightfully so. They add another classic Native Tongues album to the collection and give new life to hip-hop through their music. Their rhymes and flow are many times without equal and they are undoubtedly two of the best MCs of the last decade. DJ Hi-Tek's thoughtful production adds a lot to the groups flow and his beats shine throughout almost the entire album with the exception of a few duller tracks in the latter half. Despite this fact Black Star is a revolutionary LP and one of the greatest examples of socially conscious rap to be heard in the 90s.
