Mos Def? Talib Kweli? The same damn cd??? C'mon kid, this has got to be an INSTANT classic. Dont be so sure. The cd is lyrically and spiritually one of the deepest, most personal, and most introspective cd's i have ever had the privledge to listen to. However, i expected producers 88 Keys and Hi Tek to be a LITTLE better. The beats are good, dont get me wrong, however at times they are a little...boring. The first track is a perfect example: Kweli and Mos both spit hard and soulfully, but the beat just isn't on the same level of the rhyming. At times the beats are no less than brilliant. "Brown Skin Lady" is a beutiful and heartfelt tribute to the ladies of darker complexion. This is an example where the beat is on the same level of quality. The jazzy loop, PERFECTLY accompanies the beutiful verses Mos and Kweli spit. Also the "Respiration" beat is a soulful Hi Tek beat, reminiscent of he and Kweli's "For Women" on Train of Thought. The beat once again blends perfectly with Common, Mos, and Kweli's verses. (c'mon guys... Hi tek, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Common??? Could it get better???)However, the beats are not always on par with "Brown Skin Lady" and "Respiration", so as much as i would like to give a five star review...man i just can't do it...Overall this is still a must have.
