The Black Crowes

By Your Side

The boys are back in town

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
After the southern rock album ("Amorica") and the psychedelic album? ("Three Snakes And One Charm"), The Black Crowes return to their roots with an album of pure rock. There is a new bass player and brother Rich Robinson does all the guitar work after Marc Ford's departure. "By Your Side" is closer to the beginnings of the band with quick Stones/Faces-influenced songs (Can't be the title track another "Crazy Mama"?). The result: simple lyrics and easy listening songs. Unfortunately less roosty and more over-produced than their best albums ("Shake Your Money Maker" and "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion") But the fact is The Crowes show that they still can rock for a very long time.
