Call it 4 1/2 stars...very enjoyable listen

This is a further return to form for the Black Crowes. Unlike some of the other reviewers here, I found "By Your Side" a fine return to form after a couple of "off" efforts. This continues that trend with a well-balanced, pretty heavy album. You have to like tracks like the rocking catchiness of the first single "Lickin'", the attitude (as mentioned by a previous reviewer) of "No Use Lying", and the pure enjoyment of "Soul Singing." I haven't played the disk enough to go into depth on all the songs, but I enjoy the varied feel of the album. The Crowes continue to be a solid and unpredictable rock band. Their sound changes somewhat with each album, which makes them interesting for sure.
