Throughout the mid to late 1990s, Jimmy Page has recorded and toured with Zep-mate Robert Plant. Although these efforts have come close to quenching fans' thirst fors for a full-blown Zep reunion, Page's playing has often come across as uninspired. Those long-suffering Zep fans yearning to hear their ultimate guitar god/wizard conjure magic from his Les Paul need look no further than Live at the Greek. The Black Crowes propel the Living Legend's playing to heights not reached since Zep's heyday. The Crowes have obviously done their homework as the renditions of often overlooked Zep gems retain much of the fire of the originals. "Ten Years Gone" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine" are clear standouts with the three guitar attack approximating Page's famed "guitar army" featured on the studio tracks. Fleetwood Mac's (the Peter Green version) "Oh Well" also rocks harder than anything I've heard in a long time. Perhaps the best track on the album is the Yardbird's/Jeff Beck Group's "Shapes of Things," with Chris Robinson playing the role of Rod Stewart to the hilt and Jimmy Page imitating his buddy Jeff. Bottom line, if you're a Zep fan, you MUST own this album!
