A kinder, gentler Black Crowes reigns supreme on here!

Coming shortly after a near-disbanding thanks to Chris & Rich Robinson's heated sibling rivalry, THREE SNAKES & ONE CHARM had all the makings of a classic rock and roll record. But the only thing that went wrong was timing. AMORICA, instead of winning new fans, caused some to turn away. So what could have been the Black Crowes' comeback album nearly disappeared in all the hype about any music that wasn't what the Black Crowes represented. Thankfully, though, THREE SNAKES & ONE CHARM has been remastered (strange how it's only been 2 years since it was released that it got the remastering treatment) so that hopefully this album will receive a new lease on life. The psychedelic trappings of AMORICA are stripped away so all that remains are some pretty melodies that have always been buried under loud guitars and even louder vocals. Songs like "Good Friday," "Bring On, Bring On", and "Girl From A Pawnshop" show off a more tender, humanistic side of the Crowes. Not to worry, though. The old blues shouters still remain on songs like "Under A Mountain", "Nebakanezer," and "Blackberry". In spite of the bad press and sales that greeted this album, THREE SNAKES & ONE CHARM further established the clever songwriting that always permeated the Black Crowes' work. And, as BY YOUR SIDE would prove, it would be the last of such imagination.
