One Of The Best

My sentimental favorite on the list, this album by the ever-ignored geniuses that comprise The Church is a case of the sum being so much greater than the parts. Some of the songs are out-and-out great (Metropolis) some are cosmically weird (Terra Nova Cain), some are so achingly beautiful you want to weep (Monday Morning), some seem unnecessary upon initial listens (Russian Autumn Heart). But make no mistake - every song here is a necessary piece to a strange and wonderful puzzle, a glimpse into a parallel world where things are not quite what they seem. That the band and critics alike consider this album a relative stumble only tells me that there is indeed something extraordinary going on here.
