See anything common with "The Joshua Tree?"
Review Score:

(10/10)
Forget about the 90's for a second. 1987 was arguably U2's biggest year. #1's everywhere, Time magazine, "Rock's Hottest Ticket" 20 hour platium, you name it. The 1990's were about big TV's, big records, and big gigs. Year 2000, how hip can you be if you've been in the music biz 25 years. For this album I've give Bono a 3/10 for vocals and a 10/10 for songwriting. It now comes naturally to him. Bono's voice is bad, really. From 1999-2000 his voice was dead. During the ELEVATION Tour it got better. Very better. It's nothing at all like anything else. That's probably what he means when he says he can reach a level he's never reached before. The Edge said this was U2's most guitar album since "Achtung Baby."
The Joshua Tree and ATYCLB are very alike. U2 odvicously followed the same formula. Start it off with the anthem, "Beautiful Day", like "Streets." U2 really only did 2 "gospel" songs, "I Still Haven't Found..." and "Stuck In A Moment" both next. In the middle is sort of lad-back (In A Litte While, Wild Honey, Peace on Earth) just like "Running to Stand Still" and "Red Hill Mining Town", "One Tree Hill." Heavy songs (When I Look At the World, New York - Exit, In God's Country) before a beautiful closing (Grace, MOTD.)
I saw Bono on a commerical today on MSN NBC. I was flipping through channels and had to go back. All I saw was the image of a face with blue sunglasses. There were words but they went by to fast. Promoting A NEW ALBUM COMING SOON perhaps?
