Great for the hits

This album, like most retrospective works, is great if you are a moderate fan of U2. It is hard to argue with any of the songs on here. But if you are a true fan of U2, you absolutely have to buy the albums. The 80s were when they did their best work, and all of the albums from the era are classics. As has been stated, U2 is an album band - their albums have great continuity and one constant sound throughout (different on each album) which is taken away by the presence of only the best hits. And, as hardcore fans will tell you, some of U2's best work is not their singles hits. Running to Stand Still and A Sort of Homecoming are two perfect examples - you cant fault them for not inluding them on this CD because they weren't hits, but they are songs you should own. Finally, greatest hits albums love to truncate the songs, which destroys them. Where the Streets Have No Name with a shortened intro? Terrible move. But this CD is nonetheless a collection of great work, and hardcore fans should buy it for the B-Sides CD.
