Like a preacher stealing hearts

I think this compilation is great for U2 newcomers and casual fans. All the radio classics are here, from "Pride," "I Will Follow," "Sunday Bloody Sunday," you name it. The exclusive track, "The Sweetest Thing," doesn't do much for me, but that's a minor point.

The biggest complaint I have is the absence of "Bullet the Blue Sky," my personal favorite U2 song. It might've been over-representing The Joshua Tree, but it belongs on *any* U2 "best-of" collection.

One thing I like about U2 is that most of their material holds up remarkably well. "I Will Follow" sounds like it could be a hit on rock radio today. The three songs from The Joshua Tree in particular are powerful and emotionally charged, and "Pride" of course has Bono giving one of the best vocal performances in rock history.

If you like rock music and aren't familiar with U2 (do people like that exist?) you owe it to yourself to try them out. This album's companion, "Best of 1990-2000," is also essential.
