U2

BEST OF U2-1980-90

Good - if you're a casual fan

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
For over twenty years, one of the finest pop groups in the world has been U2. The band knows how to create excellent pop tunes that have stood the test of time. But oddly enough, it wasn't until recent times that the band released a hits compilation. Two hits compilations were released, one that covers 1980-1990, and one that covers 1990-2000. Read on for my review of the former compilation.

PROS:
-If you're a casual fan and you want the band's biggest hits from the era considered to be their prime, this compilation is recommended. Among the hits you'll get on here are Pride (In The Name Of Love), New Years Day, With Or Without You, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and Where The Streets Have No Name.
-In addition to the big hits, you get several underrated masterpieces.
-There's a little rarity on here - The single version of Sweetest Thing.
-It's a single-disc, affordable compilation.

CONS:
-Some tracks are edited versions!? WTF!? This IS NOT mentioned anywhere on the jewel case! Edited versions of songs DO NOT belong on hits compilations, but if you're going to put them on, make damn sure you let the people know that they're edited versions!
-Why did the band release two separate compilations? They could just as well have done a single-disc, career-spanning collection. THAT would have been more appealing to casual fans.
-The collection doesn't fill the CD to the eighty minute time limit. Any hits compilation should ALWAYS fill the time to the limit!

OVERALL:
This compilation has some obvious flaws, but if you're merely a casual fan of the band (like I am), this should work out fine. Just heed my warnings if you decide to make the purchase. Does this compilation do U2 justice? Not quite, but it's still a nice compilation for casual fans of the band's earlier years.
