Better than "ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND"
Review Score:

(4/10)
I was really looking forward to this album.
Before it came out U2 were saying
"It is a real rock record, our first one, its what the real U2 sound like" and the few others that had heard it before it was released were saying
"Its the best record that they have made, it sounds like the earliear u2 updated" quite oviously stateing that this album was gonna be a very "real" down to earth and more a rocking U2 than ever before, with a track with
"every track that matters" (Bono)
In fact, I took their word for it. Why would'nt I?
I know how amazing U2's music is, and the way that they have progressed with each album is just brilliant.
"POP" (for all you dislikers of it) being the most rockiest and best sounding U2 album out of all of them, thankyou very much.
But when I heard "Vertigo" for the first time, I was like eh?
Well its alright, but its not exactly a very down to earth song.
Gibberish lyrics and the video clip is just terrible and rather ridiculous to be honest with you. All those spinning and dizzying effects? I just don't know.
This album, is not very straight forawrd sounding, their are no straight forward songs, and they all seem to have the same soundscape as each other, which gives you the feeling that this is a very commercialised album - and I spose in a way it is.
It pleases the masses of people who will buy any old thing to make up their CD collection, or whatever happens to be popular, which is not what "real" music is about.
Do I reccmend you buy this, er no I don't.
Its better on the whole I guess than their previous album
(All That You Can't Leave Behind), although that album does actually have better songs such as "Walk On" "Kite" and "When I Look At the World".
As far as I'm concerned the last U2 album that really matters is "POP". After that musically the band have just become far to mainstream and safe sounding.
"YOU GOTTA GIVE IT AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!" U2 because at 46 you can't be who you once were after two albums that fall short of who you really are as a band.
U2 are a modern rock band, and to think they still will be doing this at the age of 50 is laughable.
