U2 has set standards so high, that less than perfection seems a disapointment. At 7 million copies sold, POP is a disapointment most bands would kill over.

In reality, POP contains songs that are among the bands best.

MOFO is among the best dance songs of all time. You could groove too it if you wanted. But in the midst of all that noise, are some of the best lyrics Bono has ever written.

PLEASE is a sort of sequel to SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, and musically at least, probably even better. It is the band firing on all cylinders, with Adam Clayton delivering one of his best bass lines.

THE PLAYBOY MANSION is Edge at his most soulful. IF YOU WEAR THAT VELVET DRESS started out as a B-Side, but was too good to leave off the album and is among its highlights.

You can hear Bono having a ball recording MIAMI. Even Alan Ginsberg was a fan. He quoted the lyrics in admiration of Bono's take on Beat Poetry.

I'm not completely sure why this album was considered disapointing to some. I think in part, the marketing when it was first released was quite poor. Save maybe three songs, it is not a dance album.

It is, arguably our most consistently great band, taking risks and winning out. Maybe it will become their MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR. U2 takes more risks than most bands near their stature would dare dream. Give this disc a few good listens...You'll LEARN TO LIKE THE WAY IT FEELS...
