U2's Pop is a half finished Masterpiece
Review Score:

(8/10)
First and foremost, as a drummer I looked at this album as an accomplishment for Larry. The complicated beats and the hard pounding snare was much gone from the last 2 albums. Lyrically, this album is intense. Bono's lyrics are honest, ironic and direct. I remember reading the reviews before the album came out. They applauded the album; however, as soon as it started to flop they dismissed it out of that.
Discotheque - A song full of fun. Like chewing bubble gum.
Do You Feel Loved - Heavy Distortion from the Drums and Guitar.
Mofo - Bono's most honest and upfront song. Once again, heavy distortion and drumming.
If God Will Send His Angels - Clever song. We see honesty through sharp critism for the way society is today.
Staring At The Sun - This song got a lot of air play. I found it irritating after a while. However, after seeing it live, it grew on me.
Last Night On Earth - Everyone agrees that this is a great song. Lyrically & musically. Sounds great live and blasted through the speakers.
Gone - Same as above. Musically a lot better. Though LNOE tells a much complete story. One of the highlights of the album.
Miami - This song is like acid jazz on crack. LoL Complicated musically, yet ironic and satirical lyrically. Living in Miami, I found this song to be very true. Many found this as a weak track. However, living here I found it to be quite a bashing treat.
Playboy Massion - A song mocking the social news and dilemmas of society. I liked the playfulness in the beat and its tone.
If You Wear That Velvet Dress - Perhaps U2's 2 or 3 most sensual songs. Lyrical teaser and seductive in it bass lines and guitar picking.
Please - This song is just amazing. The acid jazz beat and the drumming is just amazing. Add the sentimental honest lyrics and this song is a highlight. I have the CD Single and I love both versions they made. It sounds spectacular.
Wake Up Dead Man - This song is so intense and in your face it's just amazing. It is just RAW. Bono battles some of his issues with Jesus.
Overall, for an album that's half done it is just great. Fine, this album is not as tight as the previous albums or the one's that follow. However, that's just fine. The pure RAW / unfinished elements that make album miss is what make it a masterpiece. Asides from Zooropa and Passengers this is an album with different textures. It takes a few listens for it to grow on you, but when it does you feel and hear why.
